Thoughts in the Darkness

lumen

Sometimes I prefer the darkness

A comforting bosom to rest a weary night

The solitude eases a gentler breath

Where an indifferent air can’t be taken as a slight

A place to be no-one

Cloaked in black velvet anonymity

That shields from the burning light

And the withering glare of clarity

Embracing the shadows

That ask for nothing, and give even less

Just a pureness of reflection

That has no will, or need to impress

Sometimes I prefer the darkness

Where things don’t have to be defined

And thoughts are free to wander

At the mercy of my own tired mind

A Memory

marcia

I remember getting lost in those eyes

Smooth dark water inviting me in

To hold me captivated in hypnotic depths

Flustered, voiceless, not knowing how to begin

More than just a window on the soul

But an embrace of the senses, tactile in effect

A gentle caress to the ego

Almost imperceptible, like a whisper of breath on your neck

A glance, the spark

Re-ignites a fire that once burned deep inside

Just enough to let me stand a little taller

As heavy years are brushed readily aside

A swirling vortex

Where reflections glint and glimmer

And the strongest resolve

Dissolves like shadows with a shimmer

A tonic for the spirit

Which is lifted to new highs

Knowing nothing now can save me

As I’ll always get lost in those eyes

A Gentle Breeze

breeze

A gentle breeze wafts into your soul

Feels comfortingly familiar

As she brushes against your neck

Becomes a part of the moment

Fleeting in passing

But eternal in her effect

The briefest touch, a whispered warmth

That speaks from a heart

Suffused to overflowing with care

Like a breath on a cold winter morning

Condenses into memory’s mist

Hangs there suspended in time for a second

Then evaporates into the air

A Fluid Perspective

openminded

Questions arise and stalk the darkest corners of the mind

Taking long held beliefs and finding their resilience undefined

Carving out new pathways to truths once denied

Old bias creaks under the weight of logic being applied

I saw  things from a different point of view before

That you give to someone once, and they’ll just be back for more

But having chased that greener grass on the other side

I know the bitter taste and heavy heart of swallowed pride

There is no fall from grace, no justice scales that tip

Just harsh circumstance, and the misfortune to slip

And next you know, you’re no longer even worth a light

The cloak of invisibility that comes with any plight

We live in a World where successes are  measured

Empirical scales tell us what should be treasured

Where you judge how your “progress” stands against others

Only seeing rivals, where you should be seeing brothers

If only those who judge could be drawn across the schism

See this World with eyes that see compassion, not derision

Recognise the truth that all our dreams are built on fate

They may find some understanding in a way they can relate

But sadly I’m aware that this wont resonate with some

And when it comes to empathy, many are just numb

For even though our lives may forever intertwine

That won’t make your experiences, feel the same as mine

Soul Suckers

vamp

I see you

Hiding behind your fake-arsed social media lives

Where you can turn your back from the camera

To hide the knives

Sunlight in every picture

Like you never have to face the rain

When the truth is you’re using the shade

To hide the lines that mark the pain

A veneer of competence

An almost impish impudence

Screens the reality

As you scramble to find some personal relevance

Chasing validation

From those who have already accepted your ways

Basing your opinions

On things the next soothing snake-oil salesman says

Downright obsequious

In your attempts to always be the bride

But spread so thin you become no more than a sheen

Like highly polished pride

I see your pain in every cryptic status

“Look at me.. Don’t look at me”

It hits me like a scream

And becomes the only thing about you that I can see

It’s only because I recognise

That you have no control over this apparent need

That I don’t cover the vein and cut you off

But allow you to continue to feed

For Whom the Poll Tolls

charge

Once more unto the breach, dear friends

Once more the polling booth calls

A chance to exorcise the demon

Who has our country by the balls

Once more unto the breach

Carry forth the battle cry

Reverse Draconian policies

That said our weakest had to die

Stand up, be counted, be seen, be heard

Be part of something more

A movement taking back control

From Murdoch’s grey insectoid whore

We have an opportunity

We cannot let it slip away

We have to rid our country

Of these cunts who darken every day

Society has stumbled

What happens next is key

Whether on our feet and in the race

Or toppled to one knee

Once more unto the breach, dear friends

Each day we see this movement grow

Spreading word from mouth to ear

Making sure the people know

Once more unto the breach

We wont go silently into the night

We will not let the hate prevail

We will not bow to the fascist right

Onwards, upwards, join the ranks

Add your strength to the growing might

Then standing strong and standing tall

We’ll stand our ground and win this fight

Don’t Ask Me

rainfall.jpg

Don’t ask me to explain

Why sometimes

I’d rather walk in the rain

Why words

Can sometimes fail

Or just seem to no avail

Don’t ask me the reason why

Faith as strong as the sky is high

Can be shattered

In a moment

A loosely swaying remnant

Don’t look to me for light

Like some kind of

Altruistic knight

I’m not even close

To gaining best

In my own internal conquest

Don’t ever try to understand

The forces that seem

To guide a hand

We’re a different person every day

Each step we take

Dictates our way

Don’t look for fairness or parity

In a World  built on greed

Not charity

There is no graciously warm relief

Until first you’ve tasted

Bitter grief

Don’t expect to see shame

Reflected in the eyes

Of those you blame

They’ll always find a way to justify

Or give themselves

An alibi

Don’t ask me to explain

Why life today

Just seems steeped in pain

It’s not that I don’t care

It’s just I have no more

Faith to share
