A touch across the Web

Avatars in an online society

Discovering a shared World of values and passions

Seeing old faces with eyes anew

And realising that some beliefs were only ever fashions

A rekindled vibrant vitality

Inclusively embraces the reluctantly recluse

Gives voice to silent desires

A place where personality unseen can seduce

That is where the trade-off bites

Detachment still comes at a solitary cost

And as real as those connections are

Logging off at night, means those connections are lost

Connections made in binary form

Spelling out the code for this new tale to be told

Where the hearts that touch us the most

Beat in the chests of loved ones we may never get to hold

You make me hate the World

Anger feeds and breeds division

Truth ties the hands of those with vision

Where under guise of flawed debate

You spread your cloak of indecision

With soundbites loudly resonate

Spew your bile, and shout your hate

It pains my eyes to have to see

How you rationalise your mind’s demise

With logic born of bias

Skewed by full-on toxic spin

And an ignorant defiance

Being preached from on the dais

It taints the years I’d come to know

Shrinks the spirit I’d once watched grow

Feeds on fear, absorbs the light

Summons beasts from down below

The side of Man that takes delight

In watching day dissolved by night

How did we even reach this place

Where all that matters is not losing face

Where truths it seems, can intertwine

And bluster, ward off deep disgrace

Reality told to toe-the-line

And your truth can be different from mine

You make me hate the World

All the love, the art, music of the heart

Fades into a fog, ever more dense

As you idly allow reason to depart

Incriminate the use of common sense

And try to debunk intelligence

You make me hate the post-truth World

Don’t Ask Me

rainfall.jpg

Don’t ask me to explain

Why sometimes

I’d rather walk in the rain

Why words

Can sometimes fail

Or just seem to no avail

Don’t ask me the reason why

Faith as strong as the sky is high

Can be shattered

In a moment

A loosely swaying remnant

Don’t look to me for light

Like some kind of

Altruistic knight

I’m not even close

To gaining best

In my own internal conquest

Don’t ever try to understand

The forces that seem

To guide a hand

We’re a different person every day

Each step we take

Dictates our way

Don’t look for fairness or parity

In a World  built on greed

Not charity

There is no graciously warm relief

Until first you’ve tasted

Bitter grief

Don’t expect to see shame

Reflected in the eyes

Of those you blame

They’ll always find a way to justify

Or give themselves

An alibi

Don’t ask me to explain

Why life today

Just seems steeped in pain

It’s not that I don’t care

It’s just I have no more

Faith to share

Walking the dog

black dog

Life smiles sweetly

As it stabs you in the back

And seeks new ways

To throw you off the track

Laughs in your face

As it shrouds you in black

Where the dog cocks an ear

Sniffs the air

Smells your fear

Stalks you through your shadows

Drawing ever more near

Shadows that breathe,

Writhe

And seethe

As you longingly thirst

To drink from the Lethe

Where thoughts revolve

Thoughts devolve

And memories find release

As thoughts dissolve

No need to run

Soporific peace hard won

Bathing in the river

Black dog’s bite undone

A brief respite

Just a pause in the fight

Black dog’s turn

To hide from the light

As you float with the stream

Explore this new dream

While always aware

Things are not as they seem

Anxiety churns

As through the haze

The fire of truth burns

Clouds descend

And black dog returns

Harbinger

harbingerofdoom3-htm

I saw you again today
Spouting some shit or other on the news
Hanging society’s ills on everyone but those to blame
From Europe, to Muslims, Arabs and Jews
Spreading your fear
To anyone unwilling to challenge the bullshit you use
Those who seek someone to divert their shame
But never question your unsustainable reactionary views
I saw you again today
I still don’t get why you’re given the airtime to abuse
It’s almost like you’re being played like a piece in a game
And it doesn’t really matter which fascist stands there in your shoes
Telling us who to hate
I can’t be the only one who’s seeing through your ruse
The whole façade crumbling, but the vitriol still the same
Turning communities from vibrant to recluse
I saw you again today
Using your lies to attack and accuse
Fanning the embers you helped to inflame
Goading the angry as violence brews
Pointing your accusing finger
Causing us to feel like the whole country has the blues
All just to make people know your name
The narcissist inside you guarantees we’re born to lose

No Such Thing As Fate

no-fate-1

Going backwards
Together
At a rate of knots
Regressing
Quicker
Than I can gather my thoughts
With leadership
No more clued up
Than drawing lots
Greed driven arrogance
Calling the shots
Burning
With an appetite
Impossible to sate
The embers
Of neighbourhoods
Dying in the grate
Divided
Conquered
And told who to hate
Reality confirms
There’s no such thing as fate

The politics of anger

buddha

You were angry when you couldn’t get your way
Fuming when antagonists had their say
Livid when the promises went astray
And even though you won? You’re somehow angrier today

Accomplice to the start of truth’s demise
Convinced that this would lead to bluer skies
Deaf to people’s fears and victim’s cries
And still you won’t accept, the whole campaign was built on lies

Consequence dismissed as “project fear”
With those consequences creeping ever near
Immune to the truth about those beacons you revere
Who are selling out your rights to the things you hold most dear

I get that politics can be intense
And that all you get is splinters if you sit upon the fence
But comes a time you must accept the sense
And stop divisive headlines from dictating your offence

I never would insult you, or call you for a fool
But I will tell you now that I think that it’s uncool
To fall for a doctrine so obviously cruel
And by spreading that division, be complicit as it’s tool

I don’t need to judge you, or tell you who to be
I’m happy in the knowledge that my own will is still free
I’m fine with you seeing things differently to me
Because although we’re different branches, we still branch from the same tree
