A Digital Dystopia

Delete! Delete! Delete!!! Is this an attack by Cybermen?
Or just me dealing with my browser history?
Our digital existence, non-corporeal by nature
Delete! Delete! Delete!!! And once again I’m a mystery

“I think, therefore I am”, so let’s recreate a thinking mind
Let it loose on an uneducated public then sit back and see
Chaos, disorder, confusion, with no thought for how to control
The price we pay to keep our access to this information flowing free

Hiding ourselves behind firewalls with no flame, it all seems so lame
A new type of Stormtrooper from the IT squad, the empowered Geek
The taxi driver on the information highway, the guy who knows the codes
Back in the day he’d just have been labelled some kind of friendless freak

We are charging into a future, one that no one can hope to predict
A dark place, with hoards of new evils waiting to rear their ugly heads
A new world where we learn from what’s gone before, in retrospective fear
A virus strewn battleground with society reduced to social media threads

To be fair, I won’t exactly control the internet by writing a verse
This runaway train that we feed to excess needs to find a station
Take stock of what we have and how to bring it to the fore
Create a Web that’s safe to build our online global nation

Directionless Pt 2

Ghost_Ship_by_stormyuk73

I find it hard choosing a course at times
You know? It’s like I start one way, then just flip
Momentum trying to drag me onwards
But turbulent, wild, uncontrolled, caught in a rip
Being tossed from wave to wave and choice after choice
Roll up onto the peak, teeter on the edge, then tip
Into the unseen abyss beyond, down to new depths
Then suddenly I am back in the light, and up on the lip
Caught up in a whirlpool, endlessly on the turn, in the churn
Telling myself, “Look man, you really need to get a grip!!!”
Then forgetting myself as the maelstrom renews
A thought, fleeting, almost there, like a name on my tongue’s tip
Hazy, dreamlike consciousness, like seeing shapes in clouds
But nothing tangible, never the whole story, always only a chip
At the mercy of the winds of imagination, drifting across minds sky
The ghosts of my past, and remnants of my soul, the crew sailing this ship

Why Sigh?

I sigh
Because I know I must
To give the feeling breath
And I know the feeling breathes
Because I sigh
Connecting with a bond that used to feel
Without duress
To feel that feelings peak
Perhaps to cry
A distant whiff of memory
A scent to stir the soul
Without the need to question what, or why
Subconscious strings
That bind the heart
Emotions depth re-bound
The Spirit’s sad defensive need to try
Remembrance of those days before
Through distorted glass to view
A sad desire to capture
Times gone by
Reminders of a life
A life of love, and light, and song
A long time gone
So this is why I sigh
