The politics of anger

buddha

You were angry when you couldn’t get your way
Fuming when antagonists had their say
Livid when the promises went astray
And even though you won? You’re somehow angrier today

Accomplice to the start of truth’s demise
Convinced that this would lead to bluer skies
Deaf to people’s fears and victim’s cries
And still you won’t accept, the whole campaign was built on lies

Consequence dismissed as “project fear”
With those consequences creeping ever near
Immune to the truth about those beacons you revere
Who are selling out your rights to the things you hold most dear

I get that politics can be intense
And that all you get is splinters if you sit upon the fence
But comes a time you must accept the sense
And stop divisive headlines from dictating your offence

I never would insult you, or call you for a fool
But I will tell you now that I think that it’s uncool
To fall for a doctrine so obviously cruel
And by spreading that division, be complicit as it’s tool

I don’t need to judge you, or tell you who to be
I’m happy in the knowledge that my own will is still free
I’m fine with you seeing things differently to me
Because although we’re different branches, we still branch from the same tree

Consumable Society

consumable-society

Freedom…..
At least the illusion is real
This concept that life’s comforts are a deal.
And that we’re not just stumbling
From meal to processed meal

While corporations feed on souls
Trade-offs to achieve financial goals
With society closing it’s borders
To those who don’t know their given roles

Where there used to be hope
Now we just find a society that cannot cope
As division stalks the streets
And decency hangs by a hand-knotted rope
We always had the Western lie
That somewhere else
Others have things worse than you and I
And we can make things better if we only try
Our shared fear has a changing face
No longer nation against nation, or race against race
Insatiable greed is the enemy now
So don’t be in the way, when there’s profit to chase
Consumable Society, a World that’s built on sticks
Fed on lies and distracted by cheap tricks
One where it’s thought better
To just throw away and buy afresh, rather than fix
News is a weapon, a dancing clown
Wielded by the wearer of the corporate crown
Greed won the Cold War it seems
And Freedom died the day the wall came down.

Hiding Behind My Own Face

mask

You think you understand me, and can put me in a box
Even though the fear that drives me keeps me wary like the fox
You’re looking straight on at me, but can’t really see a trace
You only see what I let you see.. I’m hiding behind my own face

You’re trying to read a book when it’s closed, a truly pointless task
Looking to find a way within, to see behind the mask
You’re trying to see through barriers my pain has put in place
You only see what I let you see.. I’m hiding behind my own face

I know that need is in there, that desire to unwind
But tempered by my fear of facing up to what I’ll find
You’re looking out for turmoil, but finding only grace
You only see what I let you see.. I’m hiding behind my own face

You should be glad you’re not in here to ride my inner tide
Although I’m sure you have your own dark places deep inside
If only I could break on out, and feel the world’s embrace
But.. You only see what I let you see.. I’m hiding behind my own face

Another voice falls silent

silence

As another voice falls silent
We look into our past
We seek connections made
Whether brief, or built to last

As another voice falls silent
We listen for the lark
The symbol that we will go on
That light will follow dark

As another voice falls silent
And time ticks ever on
Counting hours a-passing
And mourning days long gone

As another voice falls silent
With a heavy heart we sigh
Acceptance of the march of time
And another sad goodbye

The Night Cries

voices_in_my_head-mrmvlm-d

Well, it’s 3 a.m. and I’m still up
Don’t have so much of a sleep pattern, it’s more a random guess
Things kinda happen when they want
A holistic way of living that used get me by, more or less

But the system’s not holding together
Which is why pervasive thoughts invade the dark of night
When defense is weakened by comfort’s lies
Forcing deep subconscious stirrings, unable to run but unwilling to fight

Distorting lines that were straight by light of day
New realities forming in the mist, but not emerging from the gloom
The constant tingle, creeping up the spine
Reminiscent of that feeling when someone walks across your un-dug tomb

Unable even to complete a simple train of thought
The “rhubarb” of random crowd noises , a deafening echo within my own head
Chiding, jeering, mocking.. an imagined assault
A carcass strewn battlefield of reality, from which this tortured mind has fled

Seeking sanctuary as a way to ease the pain
Which I suppose would be best served by trying to close these eyes
To sleep, find some peace, maybe the voices will fade?
But it’s 3 a.m. and I am sat here.. And I’m still listening to their cries

Inside a Shattered Shell

leaf

Have you ever been alone in a room?
Yet somehow, still felt second best?
Do you feel cursed by individuality?
And just wish you were more like the rest?

Have you ever looked into that window?
And watched your own life passing by?
Have you ever just felt you’re unworthy?
But never really understood why?

Do you find that you’ve come to a standstill?
And a smile is a thing of the past?
Do you never allow love to break through?
Because you do not believe it can last?

Is denial of hope just a symptom?
A fear of rejections to come?
Or protective response to life’s heartbreaks?
“I can’t fight, so I’d rather feel numb”

Do you know what it means to feel broken?
Trying to hold together a shattered shell?
Your spirit on it’s hands and knees
When it tried to stand .. it fell

Have you ever thought, you might be wrong?
And that none of this is real?
These constant questions, raising doubts
I know exactly how you feel 😦

A Hero of Heart

hand

The World and I don’t seem to be getting on too well at the minute
But I’m going to knock it into shape

Determination and will, the driving forces to sculpt the World I want
I don’t need to wear a cape

Masks are for people hiding true intent, to keep a truth unknown
You can look me in the eye

This World I want to build is not just for me, it’s for all, and one, alike
I’ll be happy with my little piece of the pie

You don’t need to wear your pants on the outside to show you have balls
As for tights? You’re having a laugh!!

I’m just looking to create something real, sow a seed for the future to reap
Without all the costumes and faff

Most charitable acts of our day, revolve round the sharing of material wealth
Though this helps, is it really a cure?

Or just a need to appease something found deep within, bubbling under the skin
A conscience… Or Soul, running pure

We’ve created these Heroes ourselves, they’re the conscience we try to absolve
Our attempt to excuse helpless thought

But you come to a time when you have to step up, leave the comics behind
Be that Hero by submitting to nought

It’s only by building emotional walls can I begin to construct my new World
I’ll need those foundations to start

If there’s one thing I’ve learned from those heroes, although their time is gone
Their strongest power of all??.. Has always been the heart
